One of my specialties is working with individuals with high functioning autism. I appreciate that living life as a neurodiverse person presents its own unique set of challenges. I understand the strengths that working through and struggling through the challenges have created in the family system. I work to utilize these strengths in therapy to help people become more effective in their families and their lives.
I understand that “traditional” counseling sessions—which often take place in an office and are almost exclusively talk-oriented—are not always the best option for people who are neurodiverse. My sessions take place outside, where sessions and conversation can flow a bit more freely. I also meet with clients all over the community to practice life skills like grocery shopping, cooking, and social skills. I tailor my services to each individual client in order to help them achieve their personal goals.
At Winding Roads Counseling, I focus on improving social skills, emotion regulation, executive functioning skills, independent living skills, and parent/community support. During our initial assessment, I work with you to identify the areas that are most important to improve upon and develop a plan to increase those skills in daily life. My sessions are focused on the individual, with support from the family to implement the skills into daily life. If this sounds like a fit for you and your family, please reach out to schedule a free 30 minute initial consult today!
