Walk and Talk Sessions

Nature-Based Walk & Talk Therapy

Let’s step outside—and take therapy off the couch.

For some people, sitting in an office or staring at a screen just doesn’t feel like the right way to process emotions or explore what’s going on inside. If that sounds like you, nature-based therapy might offer a different path forward.

Walk and talk therapy takes us into the outdoors—where movement, fresh air, and open space help thoughts and feelings unfold more naturally. Whether we’re walking side-by-side on a quiet trail or sitting on a bench beneath the trees, this is still real therapy—just grounded in the natural world.

Why nature?

Nature has a way of calming the nervous system. The rhythm of walking can help loosen mental knots, and being outdoors often makes it easier to open up. For many people—especially those who are neurodivergent—conversations can flow more easily when you’re not locked into direct eye contact or sitting still.

Some people find it easier to talk while moving. Some feel more connected and present in the outdoors. And some just want therapy that feels more grounded, less clinical, and more like something they can actually breathe in.

How it works

We’ll meet in the Northeast Portland area at a mutually agreed-upon outdoor location—usually a quiet park or walking trail that offers a sense of safety and privacy. Sessions typically involve walking together at a comfortable pace, with time to pause, sit, or just take in the moment when needed.

This approach is flexible. If you’re not up for walking, we can sit under a tree or on a park bench. If the weather isn’t ideal, we’ll make a plan—whether that means rescheduling, moving indoors, or shifting to telehealth that day.

You don’t need to be outdoorsy. You just need to be open to trying something a little different.

Who might benefit

Walk and talk therapy may be a great fit if you:

  • Feel more at ease moving than sitting still
  • Want a more casual, open therapy experience
  • Struggle with traditional talk therapy settings
  • Enjoy the grounding effect of being in nature
  • Find your mind clears or opens up when you’re outside
  • Are looking for a new way to connect with your body, mind, and environment

Trauma-aware, neuro-affirming, and always client-centered

Whether we’re in the office, online, or under the trees, the foundation of our work remains the same: safety, respect, and collaboration. I’ll meet you where you are—literally and emotionally—and together we’ll find a rhythm that feels right for your nervous system, your story, and your goals.

If nature is a place where you already feel more like yourself—or you want it to be—this might be just the space for your healing work to begin.
